Thank you for your request received on 26 November 2024 asking for information about the ‘Let Us Choose’ campaign.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

Please release the following information regarding the Let Us Choose advertising campaign currently present on the London Underground:

Extent (how extensive is the presence of this campaign across the network, including distribution across stations and trains; total volume of advertising space purchased by the campaign)

The campaign ran on 123 sites across the TfL network. 23 sites at Westminster, and 100 generally distributed elsewhere.

Revenue (how much revenue this campaign has generated for TfL and/or London Underground in the sale of space i.e. agreed budget for the campaign)

We do not hold revenue information as our advertising partner is not required to report to us on revenue for specific campaigns.

Approval process (documents showing the chain of decision-making and approval against TfL standards which led to the campaign featuring on TfL's estate)

Internal opposition (any communication internally which opposed or objected to the inclusion of this campaign and sale of advertising estate)

Please see the attached email chain that details the approval process and internal discussion regarding this campaign.

In accordance with our obligations under Data Protection legislation some personal data has been removed, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle of Article 5 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.

This exemption to the right of access to information is an absolute exemption and not subject to an assessment of whether the public interest favours use of the exemption.

Stakeholder communication (any communication with partner organisations like the Samaritans about this campaign supporting assisted dying with suicide hotspots)

We do not hold this information as no external organisations were consulted.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
