Follow-on from FOI-3363-2425: I am forwarding on my correspondence from the FOI team, to follow-up on a query I have made about a particular advertising campaign on the TfL network. In brief, I requested evidence regarding 'THE SALVATION FOR YOUR SALIVATION' campaign, commissioned by KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN (GREAT BRITAIN) LIMITED (Company number 00967403) through Global for the TfL network's real estate. Specifically, the FOI requests evidence to show that this product is HFSS-compliant and the correspondence between TfL and outside organisations regarding the approval of this specific campaign. As Global arranged the advertising, the FOI returned that TfL "[does] not hold any of the nutrient profile that shows the scoring on file". Can I enquire what steps were taken by TfL to ensure that this advertising campaign is compliant with HFSS advertising policy TfL Advertising Policy - with a specific focus on point 2.3.(p)? Are you able to share evidence provided to TfL to evidence this compliance? KFC's own nutritional information reporting isn't adequate to deduce the product in question, nor to calculate whether it is HFSS compliant, so I am not able to verify this independently. Any information you can provide to explain the internal process of approving or rejecting advertising on the basis of HFSS-compliance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your request received on 11 February 2025 asking for further information about KFC advertisements on the TfL network.

 

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. 

 

As previously advised, we do not hold this information. The advertising campaign was managed and approved by our advertising partner and not referred for TfL sign off. Our advertising partner has confirmed they were provided with the nutrient profile for the product shown confirming it is compliant with clause (p) of our Advertising Policy.
