Kentish Town station closure

What work has been completed

The station has been closed since June 2023, while we carried out urgent work to replace 2 old and unreliable escalators.

While the station was closed, we also took the opportunity to improve the look and feel of the station. This included deep cleaning, painting, installing new floor and wall tiles, and new signage.

During the works, we also uncovered some structural issues that required complex repairs. These have delayed the reopening of the station.

Access to the station

When the station reopens, you may still see hoardings in a section of the ticket hall.

The pedestrian route within the Tube station for access to Kentish Town Thameslink station will be closed until early 2025.

Access to and from the Thameslink station platforms will remain via the out-of-hours entrance, as it has been during the closure. That is about 20 metres along Kentish Town Road from the main Tube station entrance.

Ticket machines

The ticket machines will be unavailable to use until early 2025. This includes those for printing paper tickets and for topping up Oyster cards in person.

If you need to buy paper tickets or to top up your Oyster card in person, you'll need to do this before arriving at Kentish Town station.

Payments made with paper tickets, Oyster cards or contactless will resume using the ticket gates as normal. Staff are also available to help if needed.
