Annual Report
We unveiled the six new identities that will make up the London Overground network, making it easier for customers to navigate their journeys and celebrating London's diverse cultures and histories. The new-look network gives each line a new name and colour, all reflecting the capital's diverse communities and their contributions to life here.
The occasion was marked with an unveiling ceremony at Highbury & Islington station, which was attended by the Mayor and a number of representatives from the different groups involved.
Safety is our number one priority and we continued our work to make London's transport network safer for all. This included the publication of our Bus safety strategy, as well as a number of schemes to improve safety for vulnerable road users, which included reducing speeds and improving junctions.
We continue to work to make TfL a great place to work for everybody. We published our Action on Inclusion strategy, which sets out what we will do to ensure we are a truly inclusive employer. We also supported projects that encourage women into the transport industry, as well as continuing our work with graduates and apprentices.
The expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone was a major step in our work to help clean up London's air. The launch in August 2023 saw the scheme expanded across all London boroughs. We also boosted our network of safer cycling routes, with more schemes delivered throughout the year to help encourage people to swap their car for cleaner active forms of travel.
We also saw the introduction of the 1,000th zero-emission bus into our fleet, making it the largest zero-emission bus fleet in western Europe.
Our bus network was boosted even further with the roll-out of the Superloop network, a series of bus routes across outer London. This was a huge milestone in our commitment to connecting communities across outer London and giving people even better access to affordable and sustainable modes of travel.
In February 2024, we published our ambitious Equity in Motion customer plan to help create a fairer, more accessible and inclusive transport network for everyone. The plan sets out more than 80 commitments that we will focus on, particularly around improving customer experience, enhancing connectivity, keeping travel affordable and addressing health inequalities.
There were celebrations in the streets in May 2023 when we helped with the events to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. We unveiled specially designed 'crowndels' across the transport network, as well as producing a commemorative poster and limited-edition travel advice leaflets.
Our financially independent property company was officially unveiled as Places for London in 2023, with the mission of tackling some of London's wider needs, including building new affordable housing, delivering new workspaces, and helping create a more sustainable city. By the end of March 2024, the company had already completed more than 940 homes, and started on further sites that will provide more than 3,400 homes across the capital.
We have a separate report that outlines our work, particularly over the past year, on safety, health and the environment. This is available on the Safety, health and environment page.
