A40 Westway works

We need to close parts of the Westway between 21 July and October 2024. This is so we can replace 4 expansion joints that are a critical part of the structure.

We will carry out these closures in 2 stages:

  • From 22:00 on 21 July to late August - eastbound 'off' slip and Southbound West Cross Route
  • From early September to mid-October - westbound 'on' slip and northbound West Cross Route

Traffic will be diverted during the closures.

Plan ahead, allow more time for your journey, and check before you travel

Driving

Phase one - eastbound slip roads and southbound West Cross Route

From Sunday 21 July to Thursday 22 August, these roads will be closed to all traffic:

  • The eastbound slip road from the Westway Roundabout
  • The A3220 West Cross Route southbound between the Westway Roundabout and the Holland Park Roundabout

You will not be able to exit the A40 Westway at the Westway roundabout to join the A3220 West Cross Route travelling southbound.

Southbound diversion routes and local roads will be extremely busy.

  • To get to the A4, use the A312 The Parkway or the A406 North Circular
  • The A40 Westway will remain open for journeys into and out of central London - allow more time for your journey

Phase two - westbound slip roads and northbound West Cross Route

From Monday 2 September to Mid-October these roads will be closed:

  • Westbound 'on' slip from the A3220 West Cross Route to the A40 Westway via the Westway Roundabout
  • Northbound only: the A3220 West Cross Route from Holland Park Roundabout to the Westway Roundabout

You will not be able to get to the A3220 West Cross Route or the A40 Westway travelling north from Holland Park Roundabout and the junction with Uxbridge Road.

  • Diversion routes and local roads will be extremely busy
  • The southbound A3220 West Cross Route and off slips from the A40 Westway will be open
  • There will be delays on these roads: Uxbridge Road, Holland Road, Holland Park Avenue, Goldhawk Road, northbound approaches to Wood Lane
  • There will be long delays to join the A40

To get to the A40, use either:

  • The A4 and A406 or
  • The A312 Parkway

Plan ahead, allow more time for your journey, and check before you travel.

Buses

No buses use the roads which will be closed. But increased traffic will cause delays and increase journey times, especially in Wood Lane.

These buses will be affected by delays: 7, 31, 49, 70, 72, 94, 95, 148, 207, 220, 226, 237, 260, 272, 283, 295, 316, 607, C1.
